typefaced

typefaced is a proprietary initiative of papo letterpress, which deals in advocacy of children’s literacy, through creation, exhibition and sale of limited edition prints. These exquisitely hand-crafted objects explore the myriad expressive caricatures created with our vintage wood and metal types. Original artwork excites, engages and develops the child’s mind, promoting literacy through imaginative, playful and poetic typographic forms. Join us on this whimsical journey to delight in a fantastical world of letterpress typefaces. Proceeds benefit youth literacy programs.

  • Since its founding in 2013, papo letterpress has been dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of literacy in early childhood. To this end, we commit 30% of our proceeds from the sales of typefaced, to children’s literacy programs such as Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Reach Out and Read.

  • “Images I create are made from vintage hand-carved wooden and foundry types; in most cases they are the product of orphans I have salvaged from dispersed fonts recovered from around world.”
    — Gregory Paone, Founder
    papo letterpress

  • Paone’s tiny assistant names this one, “train conductor”— when asked why, given this response :
“Numbers and dollar signs to sell tickets, with a mustache over a ‘talky’ mouth, and questioning eyes asking “Where are you going?”
    Cognition of a seven-year old — astounding !

  • New typefaced sketches, in preparation for letterpress printing July 2018 !
Prints in this summer collection will exhibit to raise funds for local children’s literacy programs, and contribute to our first pilot program in youth engagement.
